Be Kind and Love One Another

2020 has been a tough year for many and adding an election to the mix has been the icing on the cake. Although I am at peace with whatever happens today, I still feel this heaviness on my heart. I think about the hate and arguments that this election has caused. We are not a country united, we are most certainly divided. And worst of all, we’ve forgotten how to be kind.

I think the biggest lesson for today is to remember to be kind to others and to love one another as Jesus loves us. The Bible app reminded me of this today. God doesn’t call us to love only those we agree with. He calls us to love everyone. John 13:34 says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

And what does love look like?

I loved the devotion in my Bible app today. It describes love as this:

Love considers others first.

Love looks for the best.

Love shows respect.

Love isn’t selfish.

Love seeks unity.

Love offers the best.

Love displays patience.

“Loving others while disagreeing with them at the same time is possible.” (The Bible App)

It all starts with us. We must choose to love and be kind.

My son made a bad choice yesterday. He chose to do something that caused him to receive a punishment. We reminded him that when he makes a choice, he represents not only himself but his whole family. It’s the same with us. We represent Jesus. When we love, we share Jesus with others. When we hate, we hurt Jesus’ name.

How are you representing Jesus today?

Instead of venting your frustrations on social media today, take it to God in prayer. Pray first before opening your mouth or typing the first word. This is something that I preach to myself daily!

Pray first.

Remember that no matter what happens today, Jesus Christ is still King. He sits on the throne regardless of who resides in the White House. He’s in control and we can rest in that today and everyday.

I’m praying for our country. Will you join me?
