Friday Favorites {3.12.21}

Happy Friday my awesome friends! I hope you’ve had an incredible week. And if you’re week hasn’t gone so great, I pray that today will be better.

This week was a tough one for me. I learned that I’m thankful for friends who step in and a husband who knows when you are crashing down.

This week I was also reminded that no matter how bad we may think we have it, there’s always somebody who has it way worse. And that even in the midst of pain and trouble, we can keep a mindset of gratitude and joy. And the only way that I can even do that is because of Jesus. He is where the joy is!

Today I’m linking up with Andrea to share our Friday Favorites for the week. Let’s get started, shall we?!

Last Sunday, we went to church and then to visit our friend’s property to see the progress on their house that they are building.

Afterwards, we went to lunch and then Mackenzie finally got to go to the range with her daddy and hit golf balls.

She was so excited! She asks to go play every time Joseph and Jojo play, but she needs to learn the game a bit better. She starts lessons next week and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered some pieces from Walmart’s new clothing line, Free Assembly. So far, I give them all a thumbs up!

This skirt is probably my favorite of all of the items I purchased. Skirts are normally to long because I’m short. This one is the perfect length and gives me the ability to wear it with flats or sneakers.

I loved this entire outfit and I for sure will be wearing it on repeat this spring! You can dress it up with heels, wedges, sandals. You can also wear it with a white tee and a denim jacket or a graphic tee. There is so much you can do!

Next up, this shirt dress. It is $18 and I really liked it. I wish that I would’ve sized down as the fabric seemed to stretch some as the day went on. I received so many compliments on this dress. It’s lightweight and can definitely be a transitional piece in your wardrobe. If you need another layer, you can throw on a denim jacket or cardigan.

I’m also loving my gold bracelet stack. I purchased these at different places and one of them was a gift. But I linked similar items, here.

I am loving this trend! Local ladies, Polished Chic sells similar ones. They have necklaces, too!

I love beauty products, but they can be quite expensive. So I love finding affordable alternatives that I can purchase at my local drugstore or at Ulta. Sadly, sometimes affordable means the quality isn’t great. So when I find a product that I love, you better believe I’m going to share.

I’ve always loved the NYX Cosmetics lip glosses. I was out of setting spray while we were in Hilton Head a couple of weeks ago. We were at Target and this one was in a display. I’ve used it now for over a month and love it. I also notice that less makeup gets on my mask when I use this.

To see all of my favorites, click here.

And that’s all I have for today! Oh! Don’t forget to Spring Forward on Sunday. Who’s ready for longer days?! I know that I am!

I hope y’all have the BEST weekend!

Throwback Thursday {10.9.19}

Morning, friends! I hope y’all have had a great week so far. We are almost to the finish line.

Today’s Throwback Thursday is probably one that I’ve shared before. If you find yourself in a waiting season, this post is for you!

🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷🔷

Wait

I think it’s safe to say that we have all found ourselves in a frustrating state of mind at one point or another.  Maybe you are in a season of waiting, a season of heartbreak, a season of dealing with a three-year old toddler or a rebellious teenager.  In every season, there are ups and there are downs.

During this particular season of my life, I found myself frustrated and running out of patience with my situation.  I began praying for something months before and tried my best to keep a positive outlook, but everything seemed to be against me.  There was no light at the end of the tunnel, there was no glimmer of hope and this situation seemed to get worse and worse by the day.

I was tired, frustrated and ready to give up, but I wasn’t going to do that without a fight.  Let’s just say my Latina, as my husband calls it, was about to come out.  I was about to take matters into my own hands and handle the situation my way.  The enemy was trying hard to convince me that my situation wasn’t at the top of God’s list and I was entitled to take matters into my own hands.  I needed a quick fix and God wasn’t giving me the quick fix I needed.

I was bombarded by my thoughts, insecurities, feelings and frustrations.  As I sat there about to lose it, I looked over at my devotional book and picked it up.  I turned to the reading for the day and read the following:

“Dear Lord, Don’t let me give into my fears.  Instead, stand in front of me and let me see the peace I crave.  Amen.”

I put my book down and went on with my day.  Later in the afternoon, something happened that allowed me to experience a glimmer of hope and see a little light at the end of the tunnel.  God didn’t answer my prayer that day, but He did give me hope through the means of a conversation.  This conversation allowed me to see that I was about to make a huge mistake.  And God knew this.  He knew that I was about to possibly make my situation much worse than it was and He stood in front of me and reminded me that I needed to trust in Him.

When we grow weary we begin to take our focus off God.  As for me, I realized that I was letting fear rule my heart and my life.  I feared what could be.  Feared that the end result would not be what I wanted.  I was fixated on my situation and I imagined all of the worst case scenarios.

God made me see that day that He is still at work around me.  He is working all things for good no matter how hopeless a situation may feel.  I took this as His response to continue to wait and so that day, I backed off.  I thanked God for standing in front of me and letting me see the peace I needed.

Dear friend, I don’t know what your situation is.  I don’t know what season you find yourself in.  But I get it.  I may not be going through what you are going through, but I’ve experienced my share of pain, regret, loss, financial hardship, rejection and so much more.  I know how it feels to beg and plead God to answer, only to feel like He isn’t listening.

I think of the story of Hannah.  As she poured out her heart to God, Eli watched her and thought she was drunk.  In 1 Samuel 1:15-16 she replies,

“I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord.  Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.”

I’m not sure the exact number of years that Hannah prayed for a son, but God did grant her request.  He answered at the right time.  And He will do the same for you and for me.  I know we are human and if you are like me, I can be very impatient.  But instead of taking matters into our own hands we need to stop and ask ourselves, “what is my focus on?”  Turn on the worship music, read the Bible, pray and give Him thanks!  Surround yourself with Jesus and ask Him to bring you the peace you crave.  Don’t look at your situation as the end.  Look at it as the means that God is using to make you an incredible woman.

As my devotional said, “

As my devotional said, “choosing to trust God changes my perspective and gives me the strength to persevere.” Choose to trust Him, friend. Even when the odds are stacked against you, even in the pit you find yourself in, even in the regret, heartbreak and loss, choose Him. He is there for you. He will turn your mourning into dancing and lift you up again.

Dear Lord.  Thank you for standing in front of us and keeping us from making some of the greatest mistakes.  But also, thank you for loving us when we end up making the wrong decision and find ourselves living out the consequences.  You are so good to us.  You are faithful in your promises and gracious to forgive us time and time again.  I pray for my sisters who find themselves in situations that may seem hopeless.  I pray that you will stand in front of them and go before them.  I pray that they will turn their eyes back to you and ignore all of the whispers from the enemy.  Help their unbelief and allow them to see you in every situation.  In Jesus name, Amen.

One Dress, Three Ways

Happy Wednesday!

I love this yellow dress so much! I like to invest in pieces that can be worn more than once and and in different ways so that you don’t look the same each time you wear it.

The first way to wear it is by itself! Obvious, right?!

You can also change this look up, by switching up what shoes you wear. Dress it up with heels or make it more casual with a pair of fashion sneakers. You can see some of my favorite ones, here.

The second way is to throw a sweater over it. You can do this with any dress in your closet. It’s the perfect way to transition a dress from winter to spring.

And again with the footwear. Dress it up with a pair of booties or wear it more casually with fashion sneakers. I’m telling y’all, fashion sneakers is where it’s at! I am really loving this trend.

And the final way that you can style this dress or really any dress is to throw a denim jacket on!

I chose fashion sneakers to make this a more casual outfit. But you can certainly throw in a pair of wedges or booties for a dressier look.

I also loved tying my denim jacket around my waist.

It’s so easy and fun to make one piece so versatile. You can try this with any dress in your closet. Regardless of how you decide to wear it, you will look amazing.

I hope y’all have an amazing day!!

Rest

It’s something that I don’t do well. Honestly, I thrive on the thrill of constantly being on the go. But lately I have felt so worn out.

I normally try and keep things positive around here, but today I’m struggling. And I feel that, maybe, you may be struggling too.

Life at the moment is so crazy. If I could only tell you what all is on my plate, you would probably tell me that I’m insane.

And today, it’s weighing me down and I’m just trying to hold it all together.

You probably have many hats you are currently juggling. Between being a good wife and making sure your kids get to where they need to be, the laundry (ugh), the meals, the cleaning, the doctor’s appointments, the homework, the grocery shopping…etc. And then if you work from home or outside of the home, you have responsibilities there as well.

For the most part, you keep it all together but every now and then it collapses and you just need to step away and take a day.

I’m here to tell you that it’s ok to step away. It’s ok to stop something you are doing. We have to reevaluate and re-prioritize sometimes. When responsibilities are added to our plates, we may need to let something else go.

We may need to learn to say, “no”.

If you are currently feeling overwhelmed with life, I want to take today and pray for you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I just want to lift my sister up who is currently at the end of her rope. She is balancing all of her plates and one of them is about to fall and break. She is giving her all in too many things and it’s leaving her exhausted, frustrated, drained and completely empty. She doesn’t have much more to give. I’m asking you Jesus to give her the rest she desperately needs. Help her step back and see what is causing her stress. Allow her to pull back from anything that is not bringing her peace at the moment. I pray that right now you will give her strength. Your word says that you are our strength when we are weak, and Lord we are so weak. You give rest to the weary and today, we need that rest. We need your peace. I pray that today, she will be able to feel your presence in a way that she’s never felt it before. Help us get through our day. Allow us to do the things that we need to do. Help us find that joy that can only be found in you. Help us rest in you, today.

Friend, I’m with you. I know how you feel. I understand you. Don’t lose sight of who you are. And especially don’t lose sight of God. Keep Him as your focus. Rely on Him. Talk to Him. Pour it all out.

I loved this quote I shared on Instagram last night…

“A strong woman loves, forgives, walks away, lets go, tries again, perseveres… no matter what life throws at her.”

But I want to add to that quote. The only way that we are strong is through Christ. And because of Him, we can do all of those things.

I hope you have a great day. You know that you can always reach out to me if you need anything.

Friday Favorites {3.5.21}

Happy Fri-Yay!! Whoop whoop 🙌🏼! Y’all, it’s Friday!!

Can’t you tell I’m so excited for the weekend?!

I hope you’ve had an amazing week. Mine has been overwhelmingly crazy, but that’s ok. Life is just going to be a bit crazy around here for a little while.

So let’s do this, y’all! Friday Favorites with Andrea and Erika. Are you ready?

Oh! First things first though. I want to wish my little sister a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

We love you and hope you have the BEST day!!

And now onto my faves….

He will hate me if he knows I shared this with y’all, but Jojo got braces this week!

I’m so excited for him! I don’t know why, but he looks so grown up with braces.

I am loving this dress from Target. When I saw it, the color of it just made me happy and I had to buy it.

I shared on an Instagram reel how to wear it three different ways. Which one is your favorite?

Also, Target shared my pic on their website!!

Soooo cool right?!

This hat has been my most purchased shared item this week!

Isn’t it adorable?! I don’t really love baseball…but I do love animal print and ball caps. Maybe I’ll finally make it longer than three innings at a ballgame this year.

I ordered a couple of things from Walmart and so far I’ve been so pleased. This dress is comfortable and so perfect to transition I to spring. It is true to size, but I think I may size down if I buy another color. I just want a more fitted fit.

I also loved this tee. It’s the perfect length. You can wear it casually with jeans and sneakers or dress it up with a cardigan and some cute booties. You can also wear it with a pair of Jean shorts. So many options!

Walmart for the win!

Mix and Match Mama recommended this book and after I read her review, I had to buy it. I’m only a couple chapters in and I totally get why Shay said this may be her most favorite faith-based book ever. Soooo good, y’all! It’s all about realizing that we can’t have it all under control.

And for a control freak like me, this book is exactly what I need. Thank you Shay, for the recommendation and review!!

Also, I am LOVING these two songs.

They’ve been on repeat. Such a good reminder that God rights our battles.

I hope y’all have a great Friday and an amazing weekend!!!

Nothing Can Stand Against The Power Of Our God

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

We all have times in our lives when we feel like our back is up against the wall. We have times in our lives where we feel stuck in a situation where our first instinct is to fight back, lash out and put people in their place.

But today, God reminded me that the battle is not mine. The battle is His and He needs me to be still.

This battle I’m fighting. It’s not mine to fight. It’s His. He’s got this. He’s fighting for me.

And He’s doing the same for you. God’s got this, friend. Whatever battle you are fighting, let Him fight for you. Be still and get out of His way and let Him work.

Drop to your knees and fight with prayer. Fight on your knees. Lay all your fears, struggles, frustrations at his feet. Let Him deal with those. Let Him defend you.

The Lord is your mighty defender, perfect and just in all his ways; Your God is faithful and true; he does what is right and fair. Deuteronomy 32:4

You have a choice. Be still, trust and let Him fight for you. Or freak out and possibly make it worse. Which will you choose today?

Are You Control Freak?

One of the bloggers that I love recommended this book and loved it! You can read her post about it, here. She gave it a great review and even said it was one of the best faith-based books she’s ever read.

It’s a memoir about a mom letting go of control in her life/work/family/everything. Here’s the description on the back of the book. I tried to paraphrase, but it was so good and I wanted you to read it.

It’s time to get our control under control.Jennifer Dukes Lee never thought she struggled with control. As long as everything went exactly the way she wanted it to, she was totally flexible. But then Jennifer discovered what happens when you try to wrap your arms around everything, thinking it’s all on you: You get burned out on hustle. You toss and turn more at night, and you laugh less during the day. You’re so busy-caring, serving, working, and trying so hard-that you can’t even hear God’s voice anymore. It’s All Under Control is a book for every woman who is hanging on tight and trying to get each day right-yet finding that life often feels out of control and chaotic. Join Jennifer on the journey of learning how to:

  • Overcome the anxieties and worries that burden your heart
  • Prioritize your busy life so you can make choices that align with God’s best for you
  • Find freedom through a new “Do, Delegate, or Dismiss” approach to your daily tasks
  • Let go of what God has not asked you to do, so you can shine at what he has

Discover a new way of living that will free you to be you, and finally experience the peace of knowing a God who truly has it all under control.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a major control freak. Not having control throws me into a major panic. I freak out on my husband and my kids and completely ruin the day when I feel like I’ve lost control.

I definitely have come a long way, but there are seasons in my life where I feel the control freak in me begin to rise from the dead, ha! That is me right now.

I have a lot of hats that I am juggling right now and feel so frazzled because I don’t feel in control most days. So needless to say, I need this book now. I needed it weeks ago.

I wasn’t going to share this book until after I read it, but I felt like God was telling me that someone needs to read this book as much as I do.

I’d love for you to read it with me! I’m going to try my best to read one chapter per day. I’d recommend buying it from Target or christianbook.com. For some reason Amazon was tricky with this one. I’ve ordered this book THREE times. Twice it was lost and never showed up. I decided to try one more time and I finally got it. So just a heads up on that.

I’ll include the Target link at the end of this post.

I hope y’all have the BEST day! We are halfway through the week and the weekend is again, in sight. Love you all!

Maggie’s Running Tips: Using Galloway’s Run/Walk Method

Hey, hey, hey friends!! I’m so glad you are here and that the title of this post hasn’t scared you away, ha! Yes, today’s post is all about running but I’m hoping to share it in a way that’s going to make you want to lace up your shoes and hit the pavement.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked on social media if anyone would be interested in a post about running and so many of you said yes.

So here it is, friends. Stick with me. I promise, you can be a runner, too!

I started running 10 years ago when Joseph decided that he was going to train for a half-marathon. To be honest, when I said I’d do it, I had no idea how long a half-marathon was.

I couldn’t even run 1/2 a mile! What in the world was I thinking?! I love a challenge and love a goal, so I set out to train. I found a simple training guide on the internet and actually did it! It was amazing! And that’s when my love for running truly began.

In 2019, while running a half-marathon, I noticed a girl that would run and then walk, run and then walk… I noticed that even though I was running, she stayed caught up with me the entire time. And y’all, she beat me in the end!

Towards the end of my run, my body just couldn’t do it anymore and so I walked. I hated myself for it. And I finished the race running and walking. I didn’t achieve my time goal, but I wasn’t too far off from it. I also noticed that my knee, that always gives me issues after long runs, didn’t hurt at all.

Later that month, I ran with friends that did the walk/run method and I fell in love with it. I could run longer without the pain in my knees and my minutes/mile time was actually around the same. I couldn’t believe it.

How I Use The Run/Walk Method?

I follow Jeff Galloway’s method. You can read about it here. You do not have to purchase a plan to do this. All you need is your legs and your running shoes!

You will choose your run/walk ratio depending on your level. If you’re a beginner, I would start at the very bottom with a 30 second run : 60 second walk.

Then as you realize that you can run a little longer, move up. Or if you’re comfortable with your pace, stick with it and try to work on your time.

Here’s the thing, you want to run quick and walk quick. That’ll give you an excellent interval workout! Get that heart beating, ladies! The more vigorous the workout, the more calories you burn.

Joseph and I run 1:30 and walk 30 seconds. This summer, we ran 5 miles 5 times a week and by the end of summer, we were running our 5 miles faster than we ever ran them!

I feel like adding in the walk, makes it less boring and monotonous. You push yourself harder during the run intervals because you know a break is coming. It also helps you not be so fatigued at the end and if you have knee issues, it’s easy on the knees.

I truly believe that anyone can do this!

If you’re new to running, set a goal of 30 minutes a day. If that’s too much, cut it down to 20 minutes. Don’t overthink this and don’t stress. Challenge yourself and get out there!

During the fall/winter, I stopped running so I’m back at a starting point. This month, Joseph and I are challenging ourselves to do a 3×5 challenge. We are going to run, walk or run/walk 3 miles 5 times a week. I would love for you to join us!

Will you join us?

If you have any questions or would like to know more about how I run, send me a message or comment below.

Let’s hit the pavement, ladies! You can do this!!

Life Lately

Morning, friends! Happy March 1st! I can’t believe we are starting a new month. I’m excited and ready.

Today, I wanted to do a Life Lately post. I love writing these because my kiddos love looking back on them.

I hope y’all had a great weekend. Ours was very laid back and chill, which isn’t normal for our crew since we are always on the go. But it was wonderful!

Friday night, Joseph and I went out with his sister and her husband. It was a much needed date night and a great way to start the weekend.

Saturday, we were completely free with nothing to do! We slept in, went for a four mile walk, ran a couple of errands and then sat on the couch and watched two movies! It was amazing. Nothing to do and no where to be.

One of the movies we watched was the one I told y’all about in my Friday Favorites post.

Y’all! It was such a good movie with a great message! It is PG-13, but I found it appropriate for our crew. My kiddos are 10,12 and 14 years old.

Sunday was such a good day. We had lunch at the club and then went to Lane Creek Golf Club to support Jojo in his first Golf tournament.

His main goal was to finally break 50 (they play 9 holes) and he did just that! He shot a 49. He had a really bad hole and got all in his head, but recovered and then was very proud of how he did. I’m looking forward to watching him continue to grow and learn.

I loved watching Joseph be his caddie. And this was one of my favorite pictures of the day.

I also told Joseph that the golf ball in his pants looked like he had some kind of growth on the side of his leg, ha!

When you have multiple kids, it’s so easy to divide and conquer even when the others don’t have anything to do. But we are really trying to do more as a family and going back to what we implemented a couple of years ago which is that:

Together is our Default.

I could’ve easily stayed home with the girls and gotten caught up on laundry or maybe just had a lazy Sunday. I could’ve left the girls with my mom so that they wouldn’t be “bored” or because it would’ve been easier for me.

I forget that they’re older and are no longer those babies that need a sitter. Or that need to stay home so that I can go with Joseph and Jojo.

So, we all went as a family. And I am so glad we did because we were able to spend the entire day together.

The girls were great and loved being there!

We even had my sister and her family come watch! And Mila Jean did great!

It was a great day!

So very thankful for my crew and how far we’ve come. Life isn’t perfect by any means. But I think that’s what makes life so great. The ups and downs. The good the bad. The hard and easy. We live, we learn and we love. That’s my crew ❤️.

I hope y’all have the BEST day!! I’ve got some fun things coming up this month and I can’t wait to share them with you.
