Happy Monday: Spring Break Recap 2021

Goooood morning, friends!!! It’s so nice to be back after a week off. I hope you all had a wonderful week.

We had a wonderful Spring Break in HHI with Joseph’s mom and step dad.

When we arrived on Thursday, it was cold! But by Sunday, the weather was beautiful. We watched online service that morning and then had brunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Poseidon. And then we took a couple of “Easter” pics of course.

I am still in shock everyday at how quickly our kiddos are growing up.

I didn’t buy “Easter” outfits this year because I knew that we would be out of town and watching online service in our pjs. But I did buy this dress from Amazon and I love it! I’m also loving my sandals. I wore them all week!

The weather only got warmer as the week went on. That meant a lot more beach time than we normally get on Spring Break. And this girl couldn’t be happier about it! She is our beach bum!

This kiddo spent more time on the golf course with his buddy than he did on the beach. So I had to take a picture of this rare sighting, ha! He did have his best rounds of golf this past week. He was so excited! He’s been working super hard!

Mary’s friend joined us for the week and they both had a great time. Lots of bike riding, general store shopping and sun bathing for these two.

Nonny and Papa joined us late Monday night and stayed with us all week. It was so nice to have that time with them. Aside from the beach, the kiddos loved fishing in the small lake that’s on the back of the property.

And they also took the paddle boat out for a spin!

Oh! I almost forgot. Mackenzie got to play her first round of 18 with Joseph and Jojo! She had a blast! She was exhausted, but loved it.

She has been waiting for this moment for a long time!

We didn’t eat out too much. The island was hopping and the restaurants had such long waits. I was able to get reservations for one of our nights there.

And then afterwards, we took some pics at Shelter Cove Park.

I took these two to lunch and TJ Maxx earlier that day and they bought matching outfits. Aren’t they so beautiful?!

We ended the night with a round of putt putt and then went home to watch a movie.

Friday, we went to Harbour Town to eat lunch at the Crazy Crab. Nonny took this picture of Papa and Jojo. I love how they are walking the same.

And then we went home to clean and pack.

It was such a good week! So thankful for the amazing weather and family time. It was so needed for all of us!

Towards the end of the week, I went on a solo run and was just overwhelmed at my view of the ocean.

It reminded me of how BIG my God is and how SMALL I am and that He is God and I am not.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever. Psalms 146:6

So thankful for God’s unfailingly love. Even when things happen that my mind can’t comprehend, I can trust His ways.

I hope you all had an amazing week!! And I hope you have a GREAT Monday!

Friday Favorites {4.2.21}

Happy Friday, friends!!! I hope you had an awesome week! My kids are officially on Spring Break and I’m so excited to spend the week with them.

As of today, Joseph and I are going to do our best to truly be “on vacation” and really focus on our family. I’ll be on Instagram here and there, but as far as the blog, I’m going to pause it until Monday, April 12th while I hang with my crew.

But before I go, I’m linking up with Erika and Andrea for Friday Favorites! Let’s do this!

We finally got to hold the newest member of our crew!! Y’all, Luka is the sweetest baby!

I always love sharing products with you that I love. I especially love finding affordable options and these two are currently some of my faves.

This setting spray is awesome! I spray it once I’m done applying my make-up and it sets it for the day. And this mascara is the bomb! I recommend using a lash primer first!

Last Friday I shared these leggings and told you how much I love them!

Well, I bought them in a different color and y’all! I love them, too! These were only $26!

Seriously, if you are looking for an affordable alternative for leggings I recommend you try these.

I’ve been eyeing these sandals for spring/summer. When I saw that they were on sale, I decided to finally click add to cart!

I LOVE them!

And last, but definitely not least….

Today is Good Friday and I couldn’t go without mentioning it. It’s the day that we remember the sacrifice that Jesus paid for us. My relationship with Jesus is the most important thing in my life.

He is the reason I can get through the good and the bad days. If you’ve never placed your trust in Him or if you have any questions, I would love to talk with you. Send me an email to: myeterno@gmail.con or a direct message on Instagram.

If you are looking for a Good Friday Service, we will be watching online, here. And if you need an Easter service to watch online, here’s a link.

I pray that this Easter weekend will be like no other. I pray that you will be able to feel the love that Jesus showed for us the day He took our place on the cross. I pray that if you are in the middle of a crazy season, that you will choose to trust in Him.

I hope you have an amazing day and week!! Happy Spring Break, friends! I’ll see you back here on April 12th!

XO

What’s Up Wednesday {3.31.21}

Hi, friends! On the last Wednesday of the month, I link up with Shay and Sheaffer for a fun link up. As Shay says, “It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.”

It’s also the last day of the month! What?! I love this time of year. The beginning of spring, the end of the school year, summer! I can’t wait!

But back to What’s Up Wednesday! Are you ready? Grab your coffee and let’s do this.

1. WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

I have nothing fun to share here. Our lives have been so crazy this month and sadly, we’ve eaten out more than we like to do.

So what have we eaten? Chick-fil-A! Lol!

2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

I’ve actually thought a lot about this time last year. I know there was so much uncertainty and anxiety around the world, but there was so much peace in our home.

We truly handed it over to God and He was so faithful. I miss our days at home with nothing on the calendar. We took walks everyday, we had movie night every single night and ate dinner together every evening.

Last Easter, we sat in our pajamas on the couch and watched the service online. And every night leading up to Easter we talked about what Jesus was doing that day. We watched Passion of the Christ on Good Friday and completely experienced a Holy Week in a whole different way.

It is true what the Bible says that what the enemy means for evil, God turns it for our good. Goodness comes from our adversity.

I am so thankful for 2020. It brought my little family closer. Today, we still have movie nights and my kids would rather spend time with us than be out and about with friends. We do more as a family and I have 2020 to thank for that.

3. WHAT I’M LOVING:

Joseph and I have been working together for a couple of years. But I’ve always handled the operations and marketing for our business. Lately, I’ve been getting myself out there and actually showing properties to clients. We’ve also tag teamed a lot lately and helped our clients together. It’s been really fun!

I’m excited to continue to venture more into the agent side of real estate. I do have the best trainer teaching me his ways so I’m a lucky gal!

If you’re local, I would love to help you! Send me a message and let’s connect!

4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

Oh man…these kids are running us ragged, ha!

Jojo is finishing up middle school golf and playing for a league. So we are busy every day with him.

Mackenzie is deep into the soccer season. Practices and games every week and weekend!

And she also started golf! So we have that once a week.

And our bear, well she’s had a lot more time on her hands. Her sport doesn’t start until late summer so she’s enjoying her time off!

She’s staying active by walking our dog, Georgia and yesterday she decided to go for a run after her walk! It made my runner heart so happy!

5. WHAT I’M DREADING:

Laundry. Need I say more? Ha! Laundry has been the thorn in my side for weeks. Ugh.

6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

I’m working on a couple of real estate projects and just trying to keep my head above water with chores at home. This season is so crazy for us and I’m just trying to stay positive.

I’m also working on a couple of fun blogging things! It’s still in the early process, so I’ll share more soon.

7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

SPRING BREAK!! Woohoo! Anyone else?!

8. WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:

I started watching Ginny and Georgia and it’s so good! I’m so slow when it comes to watching series so I’ll get to the end eventually. But I am loving it so far! Have you watched it?

During quarantine, I joined a book club in my neighborhood. I read the most I’ve ever read during that time because hello, there was nothing else to do lol!

I’ve missed the last couple of meetings because kids sports and also, I haven’t been able to read the book of the month. It’s been so frustrating because I love reading.

I’ve been walking everyday and thought that I would give Audible a chance. And y’all, I love it! I “read” the book in under 48 hours! And it was a good one!

If you love a thriller, this one is good! I’m excited about finally making it to book club next month and actually reading the book.

9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

Oh y’all! This song right here has been on repeat since Sunday!

Soooo good!!

10. WHAT I’M WEARING:

Well… let’s see. Lots of leggings and T-shirts lately. I have not gotten dressed like I normally do. I think because we’ve been so busy!

But speaking of leggings, these right here are amazing! If you are looking for a less expensive option then these are it. They have that buttery soft feeling and totally remind me of the lululemon align leggings.

I have them in black and just ordered these! I love the blue color.

I am also wearing these denim shorts from Target on repeat. And this sweater! I have it in two colors.

I also splurged on these beauties!

They will definitely be a staple in my wardrobe this spring and summer. And they are on sale!

11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

We are headed to our favorite place, HHI!!

12. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

We are headed to HHI so definitely looking forward to some family time. It’s been much needed. I’m just praying that the weather forecast stay the way it looks right now. I’m also looking forward to the end of April, ha! It means that May is almost here and that means the end of the school year and start of summer!

13. WHAT ELSE IS NEW:

Nothing else, really! I’ve covered it all!

I hope you all have an amazing day!! Thank you for reading!

XO

HHI Condo Transformation: Entryway and Living Room

Happy Monday!! I hope you had a great weekend. We are in HHI for Fall Break and have had the best time. It’s our first time coming to our condo for “fun” verses “work” so we are soaking it up.

My kiddos are loving having their cousins here for a few days. They’ve had the best time hanging out, riding their bikes around the plantation and going on the golf course after it’s closed for the day. Joseph took all of them to play a couple of holes and he sent us this picture. The sky was beautiful!

I wanted to share a little more of our condo renovation today. Here are a couple of the before pictures of the foyer and living room.

In this next picture you can see the wall and the wet bar that we had taken out.

And now for the after pictures!

When Joseph and I began to look for decor we hit every store possible. We stopped by World Market and decided to walk into the Big Lots next door. We had not gone into a Big Lots in forever! I found the clock in the previous picture there and love the way it looks on the wall. If you are looking for a clock, check them out! This one was only $34!

I seriously love our new floors! They are water and scratch proof which makes it perfect for these two…

I love how taking out the wet bar opened up this space. We were a little bummed that the city made us add that column but now I think it helps define the space.

I decided to keep the sofa and loveseat. We looked and looked for new furniture for the living room and couldn’t find anything we liked. I also felt bad getting rid of these couches. They are from Havertys and for the most part were in great condition. The sofa is a sleeper sofa and those can be expensive! So instead of replacing them, I found a rug that would go with the space and replaced the throw pillows to match. I love how it turned out!

We found the TV console at Hobby Lobby for $180. It fits perfectly in our space. The center table and accent chairs, we bought from our clients and the two canvases are from Big Lots. The floor lamp is from Target.

I love all of the extra can lights we added. It helped brighten up the space along with the white walls. When my sister suggested doing white, Joseph wasn’t really feeling it. But after some convincing, he finally let us do white and now he loves it. Thank you Gabs for your suggestion!

And that’s our foyer and living room. I am working on a final post with all of the bedrooms and bathrooms. I can’t wait for you to see how they turned out.

As always, thank you for reading! I hope you all have a wonderful Monday. XO

HHI Condo Transformation: Kitchen and Dining Room

In August, a 10 year dream became a reality as Joseph and I closed on our very first beach condo on Hilton Head Island. For years, Joseph and I have dreamt about this. We’ve planned, worked hard, studied the island and searched properties daily.

When Joseph mentioned this unit to me, I was hesitant. It was a bit further from the beach than I wanted and I was overwhelmed by everything that needed to be done. We LOVE a remodel so that didn’t scare us, but being almost five hours away definitely did. We prayed about it and asked God to guide us and give us wisdom. As we felt that this was an amazing opportunity, we decided to make an offer. It was definitely a scary thing because we had only seen the unit through facetime with our friend John. Thankfully he is also a real estate agent and lives in HHI. But still… putting a contract on something we had not walked ourselves was scary for me.

This unit was a foreclosure so negotiating with the bank took time, but in the end we were able to come to an amazing price. I am so thankful for my husband and the wisdom that God has given him. He is good at what he does. He studies the market more than anyone I know and truly knows the island like the back of his hand. He always says there are two markets he studies daily; our market at home and HHI.

Once the bank approved our offer, we needed to figure out how we would go about remodeling. This was something else that lined up so well and confirmed that this was the condo for us. One of our friends in Jefferson referred us to her father and he helped us with the entire renovation. Y’all. He was a Godsend. He was incredible and we could not have done this without him. I am also super thankful for our friend, John who was a huge help from FaceTiming us and taking pictures for us and letting people into the condo. What a blessing all of these people were to us. I am so grateful.

After a couple of weeks of renovating and going back and forth to furnish and decorate, we are done! So much love and work has gone into this and I am so excited to finally see the final product. Now, for the huge debate. Do we flip the property or do we keep it?

We haven’t made the final decision, but until then we are definitely going to enjoy it. We had professional pictures made for us to either list it or put it on the rental market. The photographer did an amazing job capturing our little piece of heaven.

Today, I want to share the kitchen and dining room transformation with you. I have so many pictures, so I thought it would be easier to break it up in different posts. So stay tuned for the ones to follow!

Don’t you just love the wall paper?
These two had the best time taking it down!
We got rid of this wall and opened it up to give more of an open concept.
We painted and put in new floors.

As I mentioned earlier, we toured this unit through facetime with our friend for the first time. We finally came down and walked it before the financial contingency was up to make sure this was the one we wanted. When we walked in, we were surprised at the furniture that was left. We even had a washer and dryer! We kept most of the furniture in the bedrooms, but also got rid of a lot. There were really nice mattresses in there as well. Originally we were going to replace them all, but after walking the condo, we noticed they were practically unused. We’ve learned from our neighbors that this unit has been vacant for a long time. I had a company come out and sanitize all the couches and mattresses so that saved us a lot of money on our furniture budget and allowed us to use some of that to make upgrades in other places.

In the dining room, we painted, replaced the floors and changed out the light fixture. We bought this table from some friends of ours, the chairs are from Marshalls and the rug is from World Market. I think this space came together so good. We used navy, yellows and lots of greenery throughout the entire condo.

We opened up the wall. We were bummed that the city inspector made us keep that beem, but the construction workers did an amazing job making it look good.
I LOVE this angle. I will show you in an upcoming post what we did over by the staircase to open the space up.

With the money we saved in furniture, we decided to upgrade the counter option and go with quartz instead of granite. Isn’t it beautiful?! We kept the original cabinets, had them sanded down and painted. We also added lots of can lighting throughout the condo that you will notice in the pictures. It really helped brighten up the space. We chose a white subway tile backsplash and replaced all the old hardware on the cabinets along with paint, flooring and new appliances.

Love my wooden map of the island on our counter. We found that at a local gift shop on the island.
I am still waiting on a rug to be delivered, but it will help add in a pop of color.
Here’s a closer look of the quartz countertops.
I loved the detailed pictures from our photographer.
Coffee station.
We bought the table and chairs from our friends. It worked perfectly in here. I love a round table!

And there it is! Isn’t it beautiful? We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Thank you for stopping by and reading. I can’t wait to continue to show you more of our little piece of heaven! I hope you have a great Tuesday! XO

What’s Up Wednesday {10.25.17}n

Hi Y’all!  It’s time for What’s Up Wednesday which means it is the last Wednesday of the month.  I can’t believe October is almost over.

Today I am linking up with Shay, Sheaffer and Mel for their fun link-up.  Every month we answer these questions:

img_6229

1. What We’re Eating This Week

I’ll just be real honest here and say, lots of fast food.  Ugh.  I haven’t made it to the grocery store this week.

2.  What I’m Reminiscing About

It’s Halloween on Tuesday!  This year we found everyone’s costume without any crazy drama.  I did have to order Jojo’s because he wanted a very specific clown mask.  What in the world?  I miss the days where they wore cute costumes.  Just look at my sweet babies…

3.  What I’m Loving

I am loving the cooler weather!  It finally feels like fall in Georgia.

4.  What We’ve Been Up To

Our CrossFit gym is celebrating our anniversary all month-long.  We divided into teams and have been working hard all month to accumulate points.  We’ve had a great time!

img_7117-1

We also celebrated our anniversary with a scavenger hunt, crossfit style.  We went all over our small town.  So much fun!

img_7318img_7311

5.  What I’m Dreading

This one is always hard.  I can’t think of anything that I’m dreading.  Maybe Christmas shopping??  I know, I know.  I’m the weird one, but Christmas shopping stresses me out.

6.  What I’m Working On

Laundry laundry laundry!  Ha!  No, I’m kidding.  Maybe.

Earlier this month we went to Hilton Head Island for Fall Break and then we had painters at our house for a couple of days.  I can’t take a day off when it comes to laundry so a whole weekend really put me behind.  I’m working on getting caught up and not stressing about it.

7.  What I’m Excited About

Basketball!  Football is over and now it’s time for basketball.  Don’t get me wrong, we love football around here but when it’s over it’s over and we move on.

The girls are playing ball through our local rec. department.  They are both on “big” girl teams this year so I’m excited to watch them play.

Jojo is playing with his travel team in a local league during the winter.  He’s a 5th grader playing on a 6th grade team which makes me a little nervous.  He did the same last year as a 4th grader and improved tremendously.

I’ve been reminding Jojo of this quote.  Some days he’s not very excited about practicing and going to lessons.  I know he’s young, but I want to instill the practice of practicing.  We can’t just count on our natural ability to do things.  We have to practice and work hard.

8.  What I’m Watching/Reading

I am working on finishing up Of Mess and Moxie by Jen Hatmaker.  My goal was to be done by now, but I am not a fast reader.

img_6855

I’m also doing a virtual bible study through my Facebook page and blog for the book, Church of the Small Things by Melanie Shankle.  We started the study on Sunday and it will go for six weeks.

img_6975-5

As far as what I’m watching…everything ha!

Keeping Up with the Kardashians is my guilty pleasure.  This is Us is so good.  Joseph and I watch Survivor together.  We’ve watched it for almost 10 years.  Riverdale is on its second season.  If you liked Pretty Little Liars, you will love this show.  You can’t do Thursdays without Greys and How to Get Away with Murder.  And I am loving American Housewife.  It is such a funny show!

I think I realized why I can’t finish a book ha!  Yes, I watch a lot of shows.  There are a few more that I watch here and there, but these are my favorites.  Thank goodness for the ability to record episodes.

9.  What I’m Listening To

We sang this song at church on Sunday and it’s been on repeat this week.

img_7403

When I crank my car it will randomly select songs from my music library.  These were a couple of the random selections.  Took me back in time!

10.  What I’m Wearing

Lots of plaid shirts and jeans.  I’m excited to add in my boots now that it feels like fall.

img_6930

I’m wearing my Born Primitive Halloween Shorts and my new sweatshirt.  You can read all about Born Primitive here.  Use my BFF’s coupon code Sanders15 for 15% off of your purchase.

img_7113-2

I also bought this new sports bra from them and love it.

img_7112-2

This shirt came from one of our local boutiques, Polished Chic.  I got so many compliments at church about it.

img_7361

Earlier this year, a blogger posted a pic of the cutest house slippers.  They were gold and sparkly, but when I went to order them they had sold out.  While I was at Target yesterday, I decided to walk through the shoes and came across these.  I was so excited until I noticed that they were for little girls.  But I decided to try on a large just to see and they fit!  They are super comfy and so adorable.  Oh and only $17.99 since they are “kids” sizes.  I am a size 7 in women’s shoes and these fit perfectly.  Aren’t they adorable!?

I love my slippers, but I also love a good, comfy robe.  I wear one every single day.  I needed a new one and found this one while we were on vacation.  The brand is Calvin Klein and it is super soft.  I bought it at TJ Maxx in Hilton Head.

11.  What I’m Doing This Weekend

On Friday, I am going to a friend’s house for a Cabi Party.

Saturday is the first Saturday since August that we do not have football.  Joseph’s Aunt Rose is hosting her annual Halloween Party.  She throws the best parties!

Sunday we will go to church.  It’s dress up day for the kiddos so they get to wear their costumes to church.  Although, I told Mary and Jojo they would need to pick a non-scary outfit to wear.

12.  What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

Joseph and I will celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary on December 11th.  We always take a few days to get away and enjoy some time to ourselves.  I am super thankful for my sister who holds down the fort for us at home.  We normally go the second weekend in December, but this year we are leaving at the end of next month.  We decided to go with a tropical trip instead of going to Grove Park Inn like we’ve done the past couple of years.  I’ll miss going to GPI.  It’s always a great trip but I’m excited to change it up this year.

13.  What Else is New

I think I covered it all!

Happy Wednesday friends!  Thanks for reading.

-Maggie

Friday Favorites: Hilton Head Edition

Happy happy Friday friends!!  I can not believe it’s the end of another week.  This week my kiddos were out of school for Fall Break.  We normally like to stay in town and enjoy the quiet and slower pace, but this year we packed up and headed down to HHI.

I am linking up with Erica, Narci and Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites.  I always get asked for recommendations of places we love so this Friday it is all about Hilton Head Island.

This was a much shorter trip than we are used to, but we got in as much of our favorite things as we could.

ONE

On our first night we eat at Giuseppi’s Pizza.  It’s a tradition we started a couple of years ago.  The garlic knots are amazing and the Southwest BBQ Chicken Salad is a must!  So much flavor and so so good.

TWO

Shopping, shopping and more shopping!  There are so many places on the island for this.  On our first day we normally stop at Tanger on our way in, but since we came in a little later we decided to go back the next day.  On the island they also have a lot of boutique type stores like, Francescas and Fabrik.  There’s also a TJ Maxx (because who doesn’t love TJ) and a Belk.

THREE

And let’s just go off topic for a bit.  Speaking of shopping…I got the cutest Steve Madden shoes.  They are adorable and super comfortable.  I paired them with my new shirt from H&M and my favorite Lululemon yoga pants.  Y’all.  I can not say it enough.  These pants are the bomb.com.  My sister recently purchased a pair of Lulus and I think she is definitely converted.  Yes they are a little pricey, but they last a long time.  I have a hard time finding yoga pants for my height.  I am 5 ft. even.  Lululemon will take them in for free or you can get their 7/8 length.  They are a little longer than traditional capris, but for this short girl they are perfect.

FOUR

Ok.  Enough about shopping and back to places we love ha!  Shelter Cove Park is fairly new.  I think they opened it two years ago.  On Tuesdays during the summer they have all kinds of fun activities for the kiddos.  From bouncy houses to zip line to music entertainment and fireworks.  This year we noticed they added a playground. It was a great addition to the park.  Our kiddos definitely got some of their energy out after dinner.  While you are at the park, plan on eating at Poseidon.  It faces the park and you can eat there while you wait on the fireworks.  It’s also a great date night spot.

FIVE

We tried a new spot this year for lunch and decided to go back for breakfast before heading home.  It’s called French Bakery and is also in the Shelter Cove Park area.  It’s a cute little restaurant with a delicious menu.  The French toast y’all was legit.

SIX

About three years ago we started taking the kids to play putt putt.  Pirate’s Island is fun and kid friendly.  The kiddos always have a great time until one of them realizes they are losing.  That’s an Eterno for you-we are competitive!

SEVEN

Harbour Town is a must. It’s always packed so plan on a long wait at the restaurants if you are visiting during the summer months.  They have live music, shops, the lighthouse, rocking chairs a big playground and fun activities for the kids.  We normally go to Crab Shack one night and then The Wreck at Salty Dog on another night. On the Salty Dog side they have hula hoop contests, face painting and live music for the kids.  The Salty Dog and The Wreck have the same exact menu.  The positive about The Wreck is the shorter wait time so with kids it is definitely the better option.

Eight

We were excited to finally take the kids to Skull Creek Boathouse.  The wait during the summer ranges anywhere from 1-2 hours or longer. Joseph and I normally go when it’s just him and I.  The live music is always good and the view is beautiful!

NINE

THE BEACH ha!  We stay in Palmetto Dunes in either the Beach Villas or The Moorings.  There’s a restaurant called The Dunes House right on the beach.  They have the best shrimp tacos! We’ve been eating them for six years and they are good every time. There are also public restrooms you can use while hanging out on the beach.  Why is this so great you ask?  Because it keeps you from having to go back to your condo.  With small kids this was a godsend for us because you know they don’t tell you until it’s an emergency!

TEN

Last but not least is the General Store in Palmetto Dunes.  You can not leave without going at least once.  It’s tradition!

And that’s it!  I hope you enjoyed my Friday Favorites: Hilton Head Island Edition.  Feel free to contact me if you ever plan a trip.  It truly is one of my favorite places.

I’m off now!  I have 3 kiddos waiting to enjoy their last day of Fall Break.

Have a Fabulous Friday friends!

-Maggie

To My Sweet Momma Friends

We finally spent some time at the beach yesterday.  The wind was bearable and it was a beautiful day.  We loaded our wagon with a couple of beach chairs and our cooler with a couple of drinks and snacks.  I brought my big beach bag with some towels, sunscreen and a book.

We walked down to the beach, set up our chairs and the kids took off into the ocean.

I couldn’t help but sit and reminisce about our past years at HHI.  The first time we came, Mackenzie was only five months old.  Oh my goodness at the stuff we needed to pack before heading to the beach.  From diapers to bottles and formula, snacks, a change of clothes for the baby.  The jogging stroller you have to push through the sand, a tent, chairs, sand toys and a cooler….you get my drift.  So.  Much.  Stuff.  I was exhausted before we even made it out the door.

I sat there holding my book and watched my kiddos play in the ocean and build sand castles.  It made me think of the saying, “the days are long but the years are short.”

When we are deep into the baby years of motherhood this saying doesn’t seem true.  All we focus on are the long days and oh how long those days are.  Diaper changes, feedings, teething babies, the terrible threes, potty training.  We are always trying to remember when the last time we showered was and if we even brushed our teeth that day.

We are exhausted both physically and mentally.  Not to mention the mamas working outside the home.  Praise you mamas.  When we are at home still in our pajamas you are working it in the career world.  All us moms, we work so hard.  We are stay at home moms, work from home moms, work outside of the home moms.  It doesn’t matter what we do I think we can all agree that being a mom is exhausting.

But with the hard days come the good days.  The moment our little one holds their head up on their own, takes their first steps, says mommy or daddy.  So many wonderful milestones that make those long days worth every minute.  A sweet embrace, kiss on the check and a “I love you mommy” is enough to forget how rough the day was.

As I sat there and watched my kids play, I began thinking towards the future.  Life will be so different then.  As we approach the teenage years (help us Lord), I know life will once again change.

So many seasons of life, each different, but perfect.  Each season is meant to mold us and make us into the moms we are today.  And today’s season will do the same for the future seasons.

With every season there are new hardships, challenges, frustrations.  But there are also those beautiful moments filled with love and memories.

I began to thank God for his sweet grace as I sat there on the beach.  So many times I’ve messed up, wondered if I was doing this mom thing right, yelled at my kids for no reason or had a nasty attitude.  But today was a sweet reminder that I am doing my best and my best is enough.

A friend of mind recently shared that she had a hard mom day and it reminded me of God’s word that I would repeat almost daily through those hard momma years,

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!” Lamentations 3:22-23

Oh sweet friend.  Momma out there having a hard day.  Give yourself some grace.  Take a deep breath in and release.  Look at those sweet babies the Lord has given you and take a moment to thank God that His mercies are new every morning.  He loves you and He is right there with you.  Through every diaper blowout, temper tantrum, talk backing, whining and rude attitudes.  He is there.  Giving us grace.

Rest in Him.  Take all thoughts captive to Him.  Don’t live life full of regrets and wish I would’ve moments.  Embrace every moment, every season.  Because no matter what season you find yourself in, His mercies are new every morning.

You are doing a wonderful job.

Staying Active While on Vacation

Happy October, friends!

I just love this month.  The (hopefully) cooler weather, jeans, boots, sweaters, pumpkins, costumes and all the wonderful things that fall brings.

This week we are out-of-town at one of our favorite spots, Hilton Head Island.  I look forward to Fall Break every year.  It’s a week to rest and recharge.  A week off all things school and sports.

Since I am on vacation, I thought it would be a great time to talk about tips on how to stay active while on vacation, workouts and nutrition.  It can be easy to fall off track while on vacation.  I know for me, I love my mornings on vacation.  Drinking coffee, enjoying the quiet, reading a book or just sitting on the porch.  I do enjoy several mornings of this, but try to add in runs, workouts or fun activities with my family.  It is all about finding a good balance.

Be Prepared

Pack your workout clothes yo!  If you are driving to your destination, pack your weights, resistance bands, jump ropes and anything else you can.  This will help add in variety to your workouts.  If you don’t have weights that’s ok!  There are plenty of workouts you can still do.

Plan Ahead

I am a planner.  A list maker.  A girl who loves to know what she’s doing with plenty of time in advance.  For me, a lot of the battle is mental so I go ahead and set a tentative plan in my mind.  It’s tentative because if I miss a day, I don’t beat myself up.  It is vacation!  If you CrossFit, plan to visit a local box.  If you are a runner, plan what days you will go for a run.  Setting that plan in your mind helps keep you accountable.  And if you are traveling with a group that also enjoys working out, do it together!

Involve Your Family and Friends

You do not have to go out and run miles and miles and miles or go to the hotel fitness center for hours.  You can make staying active fun!  Go for a hike, walk on the beach, play spike ball or volleyball, golf or go shopping!  My husband would disagree that shopping is exercising, but it totally can be.

We love renting bikes and taking the kiddos out riding. We normally set one day aside as “bike day.”  We ride our bikes around the island and grab lunch.  You will be surprised at how many miles you put in by the end of the day.

As a box owner, I’ve had a lot of athletes ask me for ideas of WODs (workout of the day) while on vacation.  There are so many on the web that it can be a little overwhelming when trying to find them.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

A.  20 Minute AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)

5 Push ups

10 Sit ups

15 Air Squats

Add in a one or two-mile run at the beginning or the end and you have a great 30-40 minute workout.

B.  4 Rounds for Time

Run 400m

50 Air Squats

C.  100 Burpees for Time

D.  For time

Run 1 mile, lunging 30 steps every 1 minute. (Keep your hands off of your thighs!)

E.  Run a 5K

Next up, nutrition.  Oh me.  The hardest part of vacation.  Resisting the urge to splurge.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  It’s all about balance.

I am one to go crazy on vacation and then come back home with an extra set of pounds and regret.  It leaves me feeling gross and makes it hard getting back on track when I get home.  This is why, for me, staying active is so important.

Choose a healthy breakfast

Oatmeal, whole grain toast, turkey bacon and eggs.  This will help get you started on the right track for the day.

Healthy Snacks

I make sure to bring my protein powder and yogurt bars when travelling.  If I have a refrigerator I make sure to have Greek yogurt, fruit and deli meat on hand.  This keeps me on plan with my snacks and helps me avoid reaching for the cookies or the potato chips.  Water is your best friend!  Lots and lots of water!

Choose a Healthy and Light Lunch

When we go to the beach, we pack snacks and lunch for the day.  So when packing, I make sure to go ahead and pack something relatively healthy.  I roll up slices of turkey and ham with cheese and some pretzel crisps.  I make sure to pack lots of fruit in our cooler.

Dinner

When we are in HHI, we eat out most nights.  There are so many restaurants that we love so we make sure to hit as many as we can.  I choose to have a glass or two of wine with my meal and don’t fret too much about the calories.  Again, it’s vacation!

When we go to PCB with friends we eat in for dinner every night.  This year we were spoiled with our friend Rod’s cooking.  We try to balance out healthy options like spaghetti squash or steaks and a salad.  One night we have a Low Country Broil.  Our friend’s uncle makes the best mac n’ cheese.  Believe me.  I am not thinking about calories that day ha!

Everyone is different when it comes to staying active on vacation.  Some choose to do something daily, others may choose to do something here or there and others may take a complete break.  There isn’t a right or wrong way.

Our bodies and our mind need a periodic break.  This summer I chose to take a complete break off of counting macros, but I also balanced it out with staying active as many days as I could.  It’s all about balance y’all.  And grace.  Don’t be so hard on yourself for missing a couple of days.  But when you get home….hit it hard!

Happy Vacationing!
